Shippuuden 80 changed something from the manga...

I'm not sure on how many of you read the manga, but on this episode while Skikamaru was crying, he was supposed to have his first cigarette.

I wonder if he will start the next episode, or he's starting it later, or he may never start at all.  Interesting.

ah well, it's probably because smoking is bad and the people making the Animee don't want to patronise smoking. after all, reading the manga is from free will, but watching the animee can come by accident form flipping to the channel.

this is just like in One Piece, where the chef that save Sanji ate his own leg, but in the animee they decided that he should just loose it while escaping from the ship (after all, eating your own leg is a bit grotesque...)

Well, it's ironic that you use Sanji as a example.  Yes, that was true that Zeff ate his leg, but in the anime he ripped it off (it got stuck underwater).  Though, several things also went unanswered in the anime like how Luffy got his scar, or why Sanji started smoking (he did it to himself to prove Shanks he was "tough enough" to be a pirate, and Sanji started smoking to show Zeff that he was grown up).  So I think Shikamaru is just going to randomly start in the anime.

Anyway, I guess you are right.  Several characters in shounen animes smoke, but I don't know of any anime that showed exactly why they started smoking.  I guess it's to keep the kids away from it, like you said.

Naruto: OH HEY SKIKAMARU
Shikamaru: What's up, Naruto?
Naruto: WOW YOU STARTED SMOKING?!
Skikamaru: It's troublesome.

You know, I watched the episode again when he said the smoke got in his eyes, it was from Asuma's last cigarette, instead of his own.  Isn't that retarded?

Almost feels like I'm watching 4kids One Piece dub again with Sanji's lolly pop.

Anyway, I guess you are right.  Several characters in shounen animes smoke, but I don't know of any anime that showed exactly why they started smoking.  I guess it's to keep the kids away from it, like you said. 

well, that's not completely correct. In Trigun, the priest guy (sorry, can't remember his name) I believe i saw how he started to smoke (even though it's been a year since i saw a trigun episode)

The only problem with that, is that Trigun isn't a shonen.   =(

And yeah, it didn't make any sense at all how the smoke got in his eyes since Asuma's body was like a mile away, AND it was raining.

No, b0r the filler has been over for quite a while now.  Sorry if I spoiled ya.

Btw, Shikamaru looks like he isn't going to start smoking.  He just keeps flicking open Asuma's stupid lighter, yet since he put a cig on a Asuma's grave, it can be said that he still has his cigs.  Me and XD were talking about if the lighter fluid ran out and XD said maybe hes smart enough to find a way to refill it... ROFL.
